Valentine's Busk is seeking performers and artists to take part in a spectacular one day carnival on February 14th 2015 in Brisbane's major cultural precinct. Whether you're a seasoned busker or keen to give it a go for the first time, if you have an entertaining act that lends itself to tips and applause, we want you!
It's Valentine's Day and love is in the air. Valentine's Busk is a public celebration of art, love, culture and people – a program bringing art from the street, out of the studio and off the suburban lounge to the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland Art Gallery, State Library of Queensland, Queensland Museum, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Opera Queensland, and everywhere in between.
Apply for free, polish your act, shake it up, tease it out, wow the crowd and collect some coin – the cultural precinct is your stage, so come and play on it. Circus and street artists, rock, jazz and classical musicians, hip hop and Latin dancers, spoken word and slam poets, chalk drawers and cartoonists, freestyle rappers and opera singers, comedians, cabaret artists and magicians, puppeteers, performance and sound artists, living statues and mimes, face painters, balloon artists: whatever it is that you do best. We are open to anything (almost!), supportive and keen to present a kaleidoscope of talent - if you can busk it, you can join it!!
Performers and artists are also invited to join together and attempt the World Record for the Largest Busk, and are in the running for a people's choice competition with fabulous prizes including paid performances that evening, a paid performance as part of Brisbane Festival 2015 and more to be announced. Valentine's Busk will also be raising funds for the Children's Hospital Foundation Music Therapy Program.
The full program of artists and events for Valentine's Busk will be announced in January 2015 and supported by a major marketing and promotional campaign.
