ANYWHERE THEATRE FESTIVAL & VENA CAVA PRODUCTIONS
"The library that never forgets"
WHEN: 7th-17th May 2014
Vena Cava Productions is teaming up with renowned Brisbane based artist Sarah Winter for the annual Anywhere Theatre Festival to tackle the mammoth task of cataloguing all the memories in the world.
The interactive installation titled "A library for the end of the world" will be a highly individualised experience that allows its participants to explore the audio database, listening to the stories left by others, and add their own to the collection.
Vena Cava Productions’ artistic director, Matt Seery, is excited for the experience which will break the boundaries of traditional theatre.
“I have always known Vena Cava to produce works within a predominantly traditional drama landscape and it is great to work with an artist who is pushing us out of that tradition,” he said.
The performance will run for approximately 15 minutes as audience members can freely experience the work on their own, leaving traces of their own memories and engaging with those who have previously indulged in the work.
Participants will be met in West End and taken to the library which is kept in a secret location. The artist, Sarah Winter is working with Vena Cava Productions to create this work as they offer an experimental environment for her to explore and develop the work freely.
“I wanted to create something that would engulf the experience of the work within the work"
“This does that and I would describe it as participatory, interactive, tactile and of course, human,” she said.
Winter is a performance maker, installation artist and designer best known for her previous works "A Dinner With Gravity" and "1000 Ways To Say I Miss You".
The performance is running as a part of Anywhere Theatre Festival from May 7th until May 17th.
